La carri\u00e8re de La Pr\u00e9alle est situ\u00e9e \u00e0 La Pr\u00e9alle, \u00e0 l'est de l'ancienne commune de Chanxhe (Sprimont), dans le bassin de l'Ourthe-Ambl\u00e8ve, dans la partie centrale du flanc nord du Synclinal de Sprimont. Coordonn\u00e9es Lambert : N 50\u00b0 30' 10.285'' O 5\u00b0 36' 25.942''.<\/span><\/p><p>Le mat\u00e9riau est utilis\u00e9 comme pierre de construction et pierre de taille. Il s'agit d'un calcaire fossilif\u00e8re compact, non poreux, \u00e0 crino\u00efdes, de couleur grise \u00e0 la coupe et gris fonc\u00e9 \u00e0 la fracturation, \u00e0 joints stylolitiques parall\u00e8les \u00e0 la stratification. Les couches exploit\u00e9es forment la Formation Encrinite d'Ecaussinnes (Tn3b), \u00e2ge ivoirien, s\u00e9rie Tournaisienne-Dinantienne, Carbonif\u00e8re inf\u00e9rieur.<\/p><p>L'exploitation se fait \u00e0 ciel ouvert ; les bancs ont une direction N88\u00b0O et une pente de 58\u00b0Z dans la partie ouest des carri\u00e8res et une direction N86\u00b0O et une pente de 50\u00b0Z dans la partie est. L'\u00e9paisseur exploitable d'un seul tenant est d'environ 32,8 m.<\/p><p>L'agr\u00e9ment concerne les parties de la carri\u00e8re de qualit\u00e9 similaire, c'est-\u00e0-dire les bancs de production massifs homog\u00e8nes et peu stylolitiques de l'ensemble exploit\u00e9, clairement identifi\u00e9s sur la coupe (voir annexe 1, coupe g\u00e9ologique).<\/p><h2>2 P\u00e9trographie \/ Lithologie<\/h2><p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><u style=\"text-align: var(--text-align); color: var( --e-global-color-primary );\">Description macroscopique<\/u><span style=\"text-align: var(--text-align); color: var( --e-global-color-primary );\"> :<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"text-align: var(--text-align); color: var( --e-global-color-primary );\">\u00a0\"ARDUIN - BELGIAN BLUE HARDSTEEN \u00ae\" est un calcaire compact d'origine s\u00e9dimentaire r\u00e9sultant de l'accumulation d'innombrables restes de crino\u00efdes ciment\u00e9s dans une masse de calcite microcristalline. Sa couleur grise \u00e0 la taille et gris fonc\u00e9 lorsqu'elle est fra\u00eechement fractur\u00e9e est due au carbone organique pr\u00e9sent entre les cristaux de calcite. La pierre acquiert une patine gris moyen typique de ce mat\u00e9riau. Cette patine, due au vieillissement et inh\u00e9rente \u00e0 la composition de la pierre, doit \u00eatre prise en compte dans les travaux de restauration.<\/span><\/p><p>Outre des restes de crino\u00efdes, le calcaire contient des fragments de bryozoaires (principalement des fenestella), des coquilles de brachiopodes et des coraux (isol\u00e9s ou en colonie). Une roche s\u00e9dimentaire carbonat\u00e9e est exploit\u00e9e dans la carri\u00e8re (2.2.1.2.b dans PTV 819-4 Classifications des roches sous homologation en r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 la NBN EN 12670).<\/p><p><u>Description microscopique<\/u>:\u00a0<\/p><p>\"ARDUIN - BELGIAN BLUE HARDSTEEN \u00ae\" est un calcaire bioclastique \u00e0 crino\u00efdes dominants ; les autres fragments sont des bryozoaires, des brachiopodes et des coraux. Des boulettes peuvent \u00eatre observ\u00e9es localement dans certains bancs. Il s'agit d'un packstone, parfois d'un grainstone (classification de DUNHAM) ou d'une biomicrite \u00e0 une biosparite (classification de FOLK, voir NBN EN 12670).
