Un vaste paysage marin \u00e9tait peupl\u00e9 de\nlis de mer, de coraux, de brachiopodes, de bryozoaires et d\u2019innombrables autres\norganismes.\r\n                <\/p>\r\n\r\n                <p>\r\n                    Apr\u00e8s leur mort, les fragments de leur squelette, riches en calcaire, se sont d\u00e9pos\u00e9s\nsur les fonds marins. Ils se sont m\u00e9lang\u00e9s \u00e0 de la vase carbonat\u00e9e et \u00e0 d\u2019autres\ns\u00e9diments. De nouvelles couches ont recouvert ces mat\u00e9riaux et ont progressivement\naugment\u00e9 la pression.\r\n                <\/p>\r\n\r\n                <p>\r\n                    Sous l'effet du compactage, de la cimentation et d'autres processus de\ndiag\u00e9n\u00e8se, les s\u00e9diments meubles se sont finalement transform\u00e9s en\ncalcaire compact.
